November 15, 2014- Philadelphia, PA – Edward P Caine, a CPA specializing in tax and accounting services and serving the Radnor area, chaired the Golden Slipper Club’s most recent event, Speakeasy at the Seaport. The event was held at the Independence Seaport Museum at 211 South Christopher Columbus Blvd., in Philadelphia. Raising over $110,000.00, and boasting 260 attendees, the event was a tremendous success in providing funds for the Golden Slipper Club, a major Delaware Valley charitable organization.
Held on November 15th at 7pm, the event featured several initiatives to raise funds for charitable purposes. The Speakeasy event was based on a “Roaring 20s” theme and provided beverages, food, casino gambling, music, entertainment, and an auction.
The auction featured hundreds of items; the highest bidder received the item and proceeds going to charity. There was even one member attendee, the Club’s President, who was put in “jail” with the highest bidder releasing him. Casino gambling tables were also available for entertainment with all proceeds going to Golden Slipper.
The Golden Slipper Club and Charities fosters an atmosphere of giving and friendship, with a “hands on” approach. There are currently approximately 600 members in the Golden Slipper Club. Some of their initiatives throughout the year include a summer camp for kids, a college scholarship program for hard-working and deserving students, and a welcoming center for senior citizens. The members run these programs directly through various committees and boards. These programs are also operated almost exclusively by the members themselves. Volunteers help provide emergency assistance to those in need, help produce exciting special events (like the Speakeasy at the Seaport event), and activities all designed to help others.
The Golden Slipper Club provides assistance throughout the Tri-State region. The charity dates back to 1992, when a group of Jewish masons would gather regularly to play cards and mingle with one another. They would then divide their winnings and distribute them to families’ in-need of food, coal, and other essentials.
Ed Caine, Vice President of Golden Slipper, is enthusiastic about the charity and said, “it’s won-derful that we get to organize and participate in these exciting events. Not only is fun had by all, but a generous amount of money was raised at the Speakeasy event for charity, and that’s the ultimate goal of the Golden Slipper Club.”
